Create a Project

Projects are your starting point for working with Analyst, and you can create different types depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

The maximum project canvas size is 50,000 km² or 350 tracts, whichever is smaller. If the land area or tract coverage of your selected or custom project area boundary exceeds the limits, a message will appear. If you need a larger canvas size, contact us for support. This size limit applies to all project types except the General Analysis project.

You can choose one of these types:

Tip

For security purposes, keep these things in mind when creating projects:

  • If you're using Resilience Insights to support your clients, we create separate organizations for each of your clients in Analyst. Only those authorized to work with those clients have access to their organizations.

  • Make sure you're in the correct organization before creating a project.

  • Anyone with access to an organization can access all its projects.

Task. Create a General Analysis Project

With General Analysis projects, you can evaluate national and regional areas, including large cities and Metropolitan Areas. Note that parcel-level insights cannot be visualized for larger-scale projects.

Make sure to select the correct organization before creating a project.

  1. Click Create project in the upper right corner of the screen.

  2. Select General Analysis on the left side of the screen.

  3. Enter project information, including:

    • Project Name – Add a unique name to identify the project.

    • Project Description – Add a description to help you identify the project's intention.

  4. Define your project area using either method:

    • Select from available boundaries – Begin typing the name of your location in the Location field. Analyst lists available places according to what you type.

To filter the list further, use the Search within State and Search within boundary type options to locate the right boundary. By default, the boundary is set as the United States, which includes all 50 states and D.C. If you prefer, you can customize this or enter 48 States to create a project of the contiguous United States (which excludes AK and HI).

    • Upload a polygon boundary – Drag and drop your polygon boundary file into the target area that appears, or click within the target area to open your operating system's file browser and choose your file.

  5. Click Create.

Task. Create a Land Use Scenario Analysis Project

With Land Use Scenario Analysis projects, you can create parcel-level projects using the Base Canvas with areas that intersect under 350 census tracts. You can also run and build scenarios and analysis modes with these projects.

Make sure to select the correct organization before creating a project.

  1. Click Create project in the upper right corner of the screen.

  2. Select Land Use Scenario Analysis on the left side of the screen.

    • Upload a polygon boundary – Drag and drop your polygon boundary file into the target area that appears, or click within the target area to open your operating system's file browser and choose your file.

  5. Select a project canvas type. You can choose parcels or census blocks.

  6. Select the Geometry Selection Method. You can choose two options for creating the canvas.

    • Within the boundary shape – Canvas will be made of parcels or census blocks 100% within the project area boundary and determined by parcels or blocks centroid.

    • Intersecting the boundary shape – Canvas will be made with parcels or census blocks that Intersect with any part of the project area boundary.

  7. Click Create.
