FEMA National Flood Layer

The FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) indicates areas with a 1% chance of flooding each year, referred to as the 100-year floodplain. If the NFHL gives any of the following values for a parcel, we consider it to be in the floodplain and give it a value of "1pct": A, AE, AH, AO, A99, V, VE. FEMA also uses these criteria to indicate Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA). An SFHA indicates areas in which the National Flood Insurance Program's floodplain management regulations must be enforced and where the mandatory purchase of flood insurance applies. The NFHL also includes values such as X (not in floodplain) and OPEN WATER.
