Publicly Accessible Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations
We identify current publicly available EV charging stations using the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Alternative Fuel Stations Locator dataset. For our analysis, we include charging stations meeting these criteria:
Include DC Fast Charge (DCFC) or Level 2 AC charge ports.
Have no access restrictions according to the restricted_access field.
Have no restrictions to specific groups according to the access_days_time field. We search for these terms in this field and exclude chargers that include them because they may indicate restrictions: employee, guest, customer, visitor, faculty, staff, student, resident, permit, shopper, diner, member, and pass.
